Background

Now in her mid 60s, Sandra has suffered with a combination of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis for many years. She came to H2O Physio for rehabilitation following arthroscopic knee surgery to repair cartilage damage caused by the osteoarthritis.

Outcomes

The main reason for Sandra embarking on an H2O Physio programme was to rehabilitate following knee surgery. Osteoarthritis had severely affected her knee, which resulted in an arthroscopy procedure to repair the damaged cartilage.

Sandra also suffers from rheumatoid arthritis, particularly in her hands, and experiences a great deal of pain. This autoimmune condition triggers the immune system to attack cells that line the joints, making them swollen, stiff and painful. Although there is no known cure, supportive treatments such as hydrotherapy can help to control symptoms.

The H2O Physio programme started with some initial underwater treadmill sessions to address the knee rehabilitation and then concluded with cryotherapy to reduce inflammation and aid recovery.
