Objective
Relief of sciatica and symphysis pubis dysfunction (SPD) symptoms during pregnancy.
Background
Louisa was desperate to get relief from the debilitating back pain and walking difficulties caused by SPD during her pregnancy.
Doctors told her to take paracetamol and get bed rest to manage her symptoms but with a young child, a horse and eight weeks until the due date, this was not an option.
Programme
- Duration: 30 minutes
- Water Temperature: 31˚C
- Speed: 3.0 to 3.5kph
- Depth: 1200mm
- Resistance Jets: Not activated
- Direction: Forward
- Number of Sessions: 6
Outcomes
SPD and severe sciatica down both legs meant that Louisa couldn’t sit for more than two minutes at a time. Constant pain was also affecting her sleep, making her feel exhausted and unwell.
H2O Physio put together a personalised programme combining sessions on the underwater treadmill with floatation therapy in the wellness pool.
Gentle walking on the treadmill worked towards loosening everything up and stengthening her core, both vital in preventing the condition from getting worse.
